Celebrate Black Music Month
On this day in 1979, President Jimmy Carter formally declared the month of June to be Black Music Month. Every year since, each U.S. President has encouraged public officials, educators, and citizens to observe the month with activities and programs that raise awareness and appreciation of musical contributions by African Americans.
